Brienne is deprived of her title by her cousin and is in danger of being sold off to an ugly middle-aged aristocrat. So she dressed as a man and ran away, but the difficulty of finding a job was serious. The only good-paying job she found was a butler of the notoriously vicious Duke of Connate!
